Quick Facts

1% of buildings reducing electrical use by 1% will reduce green house gases by the same amount as removing more than 9,500 cars from the road.

The Community

The Green Space Project™ Community encompasses all who have a desire for sustainability and leadership in green building practices that have decision making influence in a building’s design or operation.

Developers

Developers have the opportunity to have significant impacts on the environment by stipulating that their developments achieve some form of recognized sustainability in the marketplace. This may be LEED certification or Green Space Project™ certification depending on the constraints the developer may have. We encourage the participation of developers as they have the ultimate control of a property’s environmental impact. Developers’ support of Green Space Project™ provides them economic benefit from reduced energy and water consumption as well as a positive community image by being recognized as a Green Space Project™ Developer along with the marketing opportunities that come along with having individual properties Green Space Project™ certified buildings.

Architects

Architects play an integral role in green building practices by being the go to expert through experience and certifications such as LEED AP. As not everyone is eligible or willing to pursue LEED certification, architects are able to offer their clients a lower cost, more achievable option for certifying their buildings in the marketplace. By incorporating GSP into their offerings, architects significantly increase the available client base they can market to and can use their experience in sustainable design more regularly achieving both goals of increased revenue and environmental responsibility.

Interior Designers

Interior Designers are often responsible for the selection of interior finishes, furniture and equipment for sustainable projects. Their choices can play an integral role in the achievement of a GSP designation. By incorporating sustainable selections into the FF&E package, interior designers greatly affect the human comfort and indoor environment quality of a space. By working with the architect and the other team members, the interior designers are responsible for the visual impact as well as the indoor environment quality that a sustainable space can have on the occupants.

Building Owners

By providing their occupants with a GSP building, the building owner is encouraging the good stewardship of their property as well as the environmental impact of their building. Reducing water and energy use along with recycling programs and occupant education make the building owners a valuable asset in the goal toward a sustainable environment and building. In addition to this reduced impact on the environment, the building owner is reaping the benefits of a more cost efficient building to own and operate.

Manufacturers

The Green Space Project™ recognizes and awards points for the use of ecologically friendly products in a building. Unlike other rating systems where interior finishes and furnishings often times are "value engineered" out of a design in favor of other criteria that contribute more points, GSP encourages the end users to utilize these products in whatever amount they can. Manufacturers have invested resources into developing "green" products and having them certified by independent agencies often times with only marginal increases in sales. Supporting GSP is your way of increasing the sales (even in small increments) of your "green" products as well as ensuring that GSP architects and designers specify your products.

Tenants

Most people want to have a positive effect on the world around them. Therefore, living or working in a sustainable building will have an immeasurable effect on the human psyche of the tenant. Through education and the availability of sustainable resources in the building, the tenant will know that they are positively affecting the world around them. This knowledge will also serve as a stepping stone for most people to further their sustainable efforts in other areas of their lives understanding that small steps can make a big difference when everyone is doing their part to preserve natural resources and the environment.
